Statement

Michelle Woods is a gestural painter exploring the emotional landscapes of motherhood, memory, and transformation. Her work moves between soft eruptions and bold markings, often layered over previous pieces, creating a sense of time, residue, and becoming.

Working instinctively, she paints from sensation—letting color, movement, and internal weather lead the way. Some series lean into vulnerability and elemental unfolding (Resonance), while others explore symbol, rhythm, and charged expression (Glyphs for a Summer Mind).

Michelle’s practice is rooted in presence: in the body, in the seasons, and in the unseen moments that shape a life. She lives and works in Philadelphia.
